Timothy Bernard Cooney (Tim Cooney) is the founder of SunTurtle Studios and a lifelong storyteller—writer, painter, singer-songwriter, and landscape photographer—whose work spans six decades of lived experience and creative output. After a long career in financial services, Tim returned fully to the arts, using creativity to rebuild, reconnect, and seek truth through beauty and grit. His flagship body of work, The Journeyman Project, brings together memoir, music, and visual art as one integrated story of family, loss, love, and reinvention—anchored by his memoir The Jagged Journey Home and the companion three-volume soundtrack The Journeyman. Tim’s mission is simple: to make work that helps people feel seen, and to prove—through art—that it’s never too late to begin again.

The art of reinvention isn’t a slogan to me—it’s how I survived, and how I rebuilt. After years of setbacks that could have hardened me, I chose a different path: I turned to art as a way back to myself. Painting, writing, photography, and songwriting became more than creative outlets—they became a daily practice of truth, humility, and forward motion. Each piece I made helped me name what hurt, release what no longer served me, and imagine a future that wasn’t defined by the past. And as I kept creating, something bigger happened: the work began to heal more than just me. It helped my family find a new footing, a new language, and a new light—proof that no matter how jagged the road, it’s possible to begin again, and to build something beautiful from what you’ve lived through. Moving to Northern California in 2022, where people have been going to reinvent themselves for generations, a new journey has just begun, and I am pleased to bring you all along with me this time around. Along with my new family, I will continue to create and share as the next part of the journey unfolds.
